TICKET LINK Song Launch – ‘Aphelion’
Ruth Hazleton (2021 Australian Folk Artist of the Year - Solo)
“…compelling and intimately fierce” (Living Tradition – UK).
Ruth Hazleton celebrates a new direction in her music journey by launching the first song from her forthcoming album, due for release in 2023.
‘Aphelion’ (pronounced a-fee-lee-on) is the point of the Earth’s orbit that is farthest away from the Sun, occurring each year in July.
Representing themes of renewal, cycles, change and progression by getting some distance from our normal busy lives, the song uses the analogy of the aphelion to explore the notion of ‘moving on’ – an experience that has, for so many of us, become integral to our experiences of a global pandemic and recognition of the geological age of the Anthropocene.
Ruth will also be introducing a new musical component to her work - incorporating electronic music sampling and looping to accompany both original and traditional songs. The show will feature past repertoire from Daisywheel, (released in 2019 & nominated for ‘Best Folk Album 2020’ at the Music Victoria Awards) as well as a suite of new songs, offering an exciting glimpse of what’s to come in 2023.
Accompanying Ruth is the talented FJ Steele on electric & acoustic guitar, FX & vocals.
Entry includes a complimentary download card of the song ‘Aphelion’
