Ernest Aines is a contemporary folk singer-songwriter from Melbourne. His songs range from Americana to lore type storytelling and personal discovery to wistful ramblings. His most recent single release has been met with eager ears and appreciation. The video which was filmed in an abandoned gold mining village adds to the reception of the song and is a fitting vehicle to send it far and wide.
"Ear to the Ground" has described his song as "expressive songwriting" which is "outstanding" and goes on to liken the experience to hearing Jonny Lang's music for the first time. This comparison is most acceptable to Ernest! Finally they say he has "music with soul and depth" which is exactly what Ernest strives to create.
Aines released his debut EP, "Already Found" in 2019 in Melbourne which the The Ark of Music described as "truly authentic and expressive" and likened his sound to Bon Iver and Ben Harper. Aines is following up with 12 more songs recorded by himself while in lockdown and has started the single releases with So Far and will release "Yellowstone" next.
Accolades for his songs include winning The City of Melbourne online busking competition with "Heartwood", as well as being awarded Runner Up in the The Cygnet Folk Festival Song Competition 2020, winning the Apollo Bay Songwriter Competition and being a finalist in both the International Songwriting Competition and the Melbourne Songwriting Competition.
Ernest's travels in the last few years took him to New Zealand, Japan, the USA, Canada, Germany and Brazil, taking on a bigger music scene and playing assorted gigs from favelas in Brazil to sunset Vancouver shores to the subway in Japan.
Over several years Ernest has played at the Australian Open Tennis and Melbourne Cup and was recently invited to play for the huge worldwide online festival Isol-Aid. This year he was selected by Sounds Australia as one of the 12 Australians to showcase for the International Folk Alliance Conference. Currently he is part of the Australian contingent of musicians in Global Music Match which connects Folk musicians across the world and leads to collaborations and building their networks.
Ernest has a band in the works - check out the video for So far on you tune to see Glenn and Ruby acting as denizens of the western township where Ernest is being chased by the lawmen. He is so delighted to have been booked for the huge Port Fairy Festival in March 2022.
He will now release a single every few weeks, followed by the album early in 2022. Join his email list to be in the loop and get first news of events and behind the scenes content.
